“Keep Cool” is stamped on the side of every box of three hundred saplings that must be planted in Northern Alberta. It’s also a tribute to the grit of the young Canadians reforesting the country, one tree at a time.
The photos offer a firsthand view into the spirit of tree planting, capturing just a few of the thousands who venture into the wilderness each summer.
Taken during my rookie season, the photographs reveal the raw intensity of backbreaking labour—mud-caked clothes, damaged skin, and long stretches of isolation. While at the same time, expressing the peace, rugged beauty, and vibrancy of life in the bush.
'Keep Cool' was on display at Rooster Coffee House, 479 Broadview Ave, Toronto, as part of the Contact Photography Festival.
